My Journey Begins In 3 Days!!!!

It doesn't seem real. Even as I prepare my family, my luggage and my home for my departure, I cannot believe this dream is coming true. I will be leaving for Malawi on Sunday March 15th. I am filled with gratitude, as so many have come together to make this trip possible. I cannot begin to thank all who have supported me this far. Please keep me in your thoughts and my family in your prayers. I will try to blog as often as I can but I am unsure of the communication conditions. Keep checking back. Please scroll all the way to the bottom of this blog to see pictures of where I will be.

  7. Here you go, people of Malawi, a gift to you from God, My wife LaNette and Kim. As I sit here at 3.A.M. sleepless, I was recanting what My wife and I had discussed. How things just kept falling into place as she pursued her passion of birthing. So much so, that it seemed beyond consiquence, a calling if you will.It seemed to me this calling hit her right after our son Shane was born. Fast forward then to her inventing a board game on birthing called "who's having this baby anyway". Fast forward to her Doula practice and 400+ births under her belt. Then came her desire to become a certified midwife. College though was too far away and too expensive. POOF! A class in Madison, Wisconsin Appears, and after hard work and sacrifice, and some help from Ebay sales, it was obtainable. The word "Driven" is an understatement when describing my wife. So is the word "over-achiever". In her world a 4.0 grade point is concidered average. She is able to retain so much information, my pea brain would explode under the strain. This is why her path led her to you, people of Africa, a gift from God. Please take care of her while she's there. Meanwhile, here at home, I will continue to follow her daily log she left for me on the table so I don't screw anything up or miss any appointments while she's gone and make sure to file everything in the proper folders she created for me so she can examine how well I did on my own. Oh, did I mention the controlling and organization factor? Another time. I will wait patiantly, on the "Man chair", watching what ever I want, as loud as I want, for as long as I want. I will miss her though. we take a lot for granted in life and don't realize it's value till we are without. I am so proud of what she's done, what she's doing, and what she will do. I'm a lucky guy. Be safe, have fun, I love you. Me :)

  14. Just talked with Lanette on Monday. She's doing as good as can be expected. She's very home sick. She does have her own toilet, that's good. The food there is bad. She's delivering lots of babies, but through swarms of fly's and other indiginous creatures. Poverty there is un imaginable she said. She said the poverty we saw in Jamaica and Dominican republic is nothing compared to here. She should call me on Sunday she said. More updates to come. Mike

  17. Thanks for the kind words and prayers from everyone. I just talked with her this morning. It's very hot today, in the 90's and humid. She is able to travel from tribe to tribe in a land rover, much better than an oxcart. She brings a live chicken in a bucket and that is what they cook up for lunch. She's very busy and delivering about 5 births a day. She is suturing now, stitching with cockroachs and lizards running by she said. She sends everyone her love and misses everyone and can't wait to come home. She's taking tons of pictures and say's everything is so unbelievable out here. We take so much for granted. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks. Mike

  18. On a personal note, I'm no rocket scientist when it comes to computers. So when I post, I choose google I guess, then some letters come up. I type the letters in the box and hit post. Then some letters come up in red and I ignore those and punch diffrent letters in another box, then hit post or finish. Then a page comes up to enter my email and password, so I do. Then I hit post or finish, and then it finally shows up on the blog. I'm sure there is a more efficiant way, but it works for me. Hope you all are able to post better, but if you can't get a post on, you can try what I did. Thanks. Mike

  20. LaNette called yesterday. She Misses everyone and is very homesick. One of the people working with her from another country just passed some exam or criteria to become a doctor. So they had a party that night and someone was able to supply some home made hooch. She said it brings a whole new meaning to rum and coke. Everything is going well. She hopes to take a 3 day safari when she's done. She said she is doing things there that would have taken forever in the states. She is very happy for that. No wendy the kids did not inform me of your call, no surprise. Thanks for being there if I need you, so far so good for now. Not LaNette's standards by no means, but it's working. I'll post more info as I get it. Mike

  22. JudyFeid said.....Oh LaNette, what are they saying about this "bubbly blonde white women" who has such a passion for "birthing" babies! I pray for you daily, and try and picture just how you are managing in a land whose customs and daily life are so very different from ours! Mike, you are awesome! Love to All

  24. Good to hear from you all that are posting. Thanks for all the kind words. Last time I talked with LaNette, she said the little tribal kids call her "magoombu" or something like that. It means white person. They come running up and touch her arm and are amazed at her light skin. One lady thought she was Madonna and wanted her to take her baby home. I wish LaNette had Madonna's money, that's about it. Haven't heard from her in a few day's, I'll keep you posted. Love you all. Sincerely, Mike
